Service Description

Whether you’re just beginning to explore crystals or already have a collection and want to understand it more deeply, Crystal Foundations is designed to give you a practical and approachable introduction to the mineral world. Rather than simply memorizing lists of meanings and properties, we’ll explore what crystals are, why they look and behave the way they do, and how their physical characteristics, history, traditions, and metaphysical associations have shaped the ways people work with them. During the class, we’ll explore a variety of real specimens and discuss topics such as how crystals and minerals form, crystal structures and formations, mineral identification, natural versus treated material, common enhancements and trade names, and what to look for when choosing a stone. We’ll also explore the metaphysical side of crystals, including traditional energetic associations, cleansing and care, intention, and different ways crystals can be incorporated into personal or spiritual practices. We’ll talk about some of the questions that often come up when entering the crystal world: Does a crystal have to be cleansed? How do you choose the right stone? Does size or shape matter? What’s the difference between a raw crystal and a polished one? Are heat-treated or enhanced stones still useful? How can you tell when something may not be what it is being sold as? And, perhaps most importantly, how do you move beyond what a book or website tells you and begin developing your own understanding of the stones you work with? Crystal Foundations is intended to be interactive, so the exact conversation may change depending on the group, the specimens we have available, and the questions that come up along the way. Some gatherings may lean further into geology and identification, while others may spend more time exploring energetic traditions and practical ways of working with crystals. There is no experience required and no list of meanings to memorize. Come curious, handle real specimens, ask questions, and leave with a stronger foundation for understanding crystals—and the confidence to continue exploring them for yourself.
